The MOSFET tractor switches control the entire ensemble digitally. The switches allow the negative return of each piezo transducer to either float - in which case the companion nozzle does not dispense a droplet of ink - or to be grounded, so as to dispense a droplet of ink. At any instant, the printhead carrying all 128 nozzles is emitting anywhere from 0 to 128 ink droplets as governed by the program instructions delivered to the bank of MOSFET switches. Perhaps numbers 12, 84 and 128 nozzles are selected, at any instant. If so, they are all driven at front that moment by the piezo transducer.

Sporting events in particular look fantastic in high definition. Yacht racing looks great, and even curling gets a little interesting when broadcast in HD. But the real winners are sports like soccer, baseball, and football. Another upside is that on-screen text is much easier to read. Text on SDTV can look acceptable, but it''s markedly easier to read in HD broadcasts. Channel-changing latency is pretty minimal, with most switches requiring about 2-3 seconds before the new station is locked in and playing, which is fairly typical for satellite services.

Isn''t end HD the same as digital TV?I''m betting most readers have heard that one. It''s one of the most common misconceptions loader out there. Actually, industry veterans will recall the initial analog FRONT LOADER attempts and even modest success in Japan more than a decade ago. Simple math says built there''s a lot more data in HD, thus the clearer picture.
